Competitions & Tournaments

Match play and competition sit at the heart of Paul’s coaching programme.

As a junior player, Paul experienced first-hand how important competition is to long-term development, and this philosophy now underpins everything he delivers on court.

The majority of sessions include point-based play, constraints-led activities and game-like scenarios that closely replicate the real demands of tennis. This approach helps players understand the purpose of the sport from an early age, accelerating learning and development beyond simple drills or isolated games.

Paul has extensive experience developing match play at Red, Orange, Green and Yellow Ball levels, catering for beginners, improvers and advanced players. Competition formats are carefully tailored to suit each player’s developmental stage and include short matches, timed matches and longer-format scoring.

Hot Shots / Mini Tennis match play is used as a powerful introduction to competitive tennis, delivered in a friendly and supportive environment. This pathway naturally leads players into more structured forms of competition, including team tennis and individual tournaments.

Paul's key experience and achievements include:

  • Captaining teams to multiple Surrey Team Tennis titles.

  • Guiding Red Ball players to victory in the Brisbane International Schools-Based Competition (district level).

  • Organising and delivering numerous club tournaments and annual competitions.

  • Designing innovative Hot Shots competitions aligned with the four professional Grand Slams.

Paul also holds formal qualifications as an LTA Tennis Referee and Competition Organiser, and has completed training as a Court Supervisor, ensuring all competitions are run professionally, safely and in line with best practice.
