My Hotshots and Mini Tennis coaching is designed to help children develop their game through active, engaging and enjoyable sessions. Using modified balls, courts and equipment, players can learn at a level appropriate to their age and stage of development.
My coaching follows a learn through play philosophy. I aim to create engaging, dynamic sessions where every child is active, learning and encouraged to think and make decisions for themselves.
Players spend as much time as possible with a racket in their hand. Sessions include lots of cooperative play, helping children develop important sending and receiving skills, movement, balance and coordination.
I use a Constraints Led Approach (CLA) to create situations that encourage exploration and problem-solving. By adapting the court, ball, rules or task, players can discover movement and tactical solutions through experience.
Modified balls, smaller courts and appropriate equipment are used to support each player's development. While the programme follows recognised Hotshots and Mini Tennis stages, I take a flexible approach based on the needs of the individual player.
Progression should be based on development, not simply age. I use recognised competencies alongside my own coaching assessment to decide when a player is ready to progress, while allowing flexibility for individual needs.
Whether your child is just starting out or ready to take the next step, my aim is to help them build the skills, confidence and love of tennis to keep playing and progressing.
